Moved by both her passion to rescue children and a personal traumatic past, Katrina Terry founded LION195 Against Trafficking, Inc. in 2022. LION195 supports child survivors of human trafficking by providing them with resources and a safe place to heal and recover. The movie “Sound of Freedom” recently cast a startling light on the horrific child sex trafficking industry, but for many, like Katrina, the experience was real and the trauma was personal. Katrina’s own story of abuse fuels her passion to provide recovery care to children who have been traumatized. Globally over 2.5 million children annually are being sexually trafficked, and the disturbing truth in the US is that half of all children know their trafficker.
Starting a non-profit with a goal to have a US wide impact was no small undertaking, but Katrina’s passion and faith have moved mountains and LION195 is well on its way to providing homes around the country for children who have been victimized by the sex trafficking industry. With only 300 beds currently available nationwide to care for these precious children, LION195 has plans to start homes in all 50 states that will create a safe space for the victims to heal, recover and thrive. About this task ahead for LION195, Katrina commented, “This monumental mission requires an army of bold changemakers uniting in collective strength. The vast numbers of children in need, often unreported and inaccurately accounted for, render our mission immeasurable—a legacy not just for today but for generations to come. Together, we craft a heritage of hope, turning trauma into triumph, safeguarding their future from being dictated by their past.”
In her quest to personally fund the mission of LION195 Katrina was led by the Lord in March of 2023 to accept a position with J. Galt, a company with a mission to help small businesses grow and prosper. She knew the earning potential she had with J. Galt would allow her to make a substantial difference personally in the cause of LION195, but the Lord had bigger plans. In November of 2023, Katrina traveled to Atlanta to meet with potential partners for LION195 and had the opportunity to also have dinner with Cole and Deb Wyant, the founding family and head of J. Galt. Cole and Deb have both had a passion for over 25 years of helping victims of sex trafficking and were extremely moved by Katrina’s story and her dedication to the mission of LION195. Deb Wyant serves as the Chief Administrative Officer for J. Galt and had this to say, “In our journey with J. Galt, we’ve always believed that business success should be a force for good. Meeting Katrina and learning about her dedication to the mission of LION195 reaffirms our commitment to using our platform to make a meaningful impact in the fight against sex trafficking. As a result of this dinner conversation, Cole and Deb prayerfully made a monumental decision. They promoted Katrina to a position of Regional Managing Partner which offered a higher earning potential for Katrina to allow her to personally give more to LION195, and they then personally pledged to give almost twice her future earnings directly to the LION195 cause. This unprecedented announcement was made to the J. Galt team at a weekly corporate meeting and many of Katrina’s counterparts, who are also passionate about her cause, were moved to tears. LION195, Katrina, and her team have an enormous task ahead of them, but the contributions of Cole and Deb definitely make the path a lot brighter. LION195 will be creating those safe spaces for children much sooner now with their help and the help of others.
