One of my favorite things to do now at Christmas time is to play Mrs. Claus. This started a couple of years ago when I was teaching High School and the school I was at went all out for Christmas Parties. The Superintendent at that time dressed up as Santa, the principal dressed up as Buddy the Elf, one of the parents was dressed as the Grinch, so I decided to dress as Mrs. Claus. The reaction on children’s faces when they witness a little Christmas magic is heart warming. I know that Santa and Mrs. Claus are not the “reason for the season”, and believe me I am all in celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior. However, this small window into the mind of a child seeing the light in their eyes when they see Santa or me as Mrs. Claus melts my heart and reminds me of the beauty of innocence. In a time when children are being exploited around the world, I’m so thankful to be a part of their innocence and love for something beautiful and magical at Christmas time.
